GIF to PDF

Drag & Drop Your GIF File Here

GIF files turn up in design assets, documentation screenshots, and web graphics exports. When you need to include a GIF in a PDF report, submit it through a portal that only accepts PDFs, or archive it alongside other image formats, converting to PDF is the quickest option without installing anything.

This tool converts both static and animated GIFs to PDF. For animated GIFs, the first frame is used as the PDF image since PDF does not support animation.

How to Convert GIF to PDF

  1. Upload your .gif file or drag and drop it onto the upload area.
  2. Check the preview — for animated GIFs you will see the first frame, which is what will appear in the PDF.
  3. Click Convert. The image is embedded in a PDF page sized to match.
  4. Download the PDF. If you need multiple GIFs in one PDF, convert them individually and use the Merge PDF tool to combine them.

GIF vs Other Image Formats for PDF

Format Color depth Animation Best for PDF
GIF 256 colors max Yes (first frame only) Simple graphics, logos, icons
PNG Full color + transparency No Screenshots, detailed graphics
JPG Full color No Photos, complex images
WEBP Full color + transparency Yes (first frame only) Modern web graphics

Things to Know

  • GIF supports only 256 colors — if your GIF contains gradients or photographic content, the quality will already be limited before conversion. The PDF output will be the same quality as the source GIF.
  • Animated GIFs only export the first frame to PDF. PDF does not support animation, so only the first frame is captured. If you need a specific frame, use an animated GIF editor to extract it as a static image first.
  • Very small GIFs (pixel art, 16×16 icons) may appear blurry in the PDF if scaled up to fill the page. The tool embeds the image at its original pixel dimensions.
  • Transparent GIFs render with a white background in the PDF output. If you need transparency preserved, convert to PNG first and then use the PNG to PDF tool.

Common Questions

How do I convert a GIF to PDF?

Upload your .gif file and click Convert. The tool generates a PDF with the GIF embedded as an image. For animated GIFs, only the first frame is used since PDFs do not support animation.

Can I convert an animated GIF to PDF?

Yes, but only the first frame is captured. PDF format does not support animation. If you need a specific frame from an animated GIF, extract it as a PNG using a tool like GIMP or Photoshop first.

Why does my GIF look low quality in the PDF?

GIF format is limited to 256 colors, so any image with gradients or many colors will already be lower quality before conversion. The PDF output reflects the quality of the source GIF — the conversion itself does not reduce quality further.

How do I put multiple GIFs in one PDF?

Convert each GIF to PDF separately using this tool, then use the Merge PDF tool to combine the individual PDFs into one document.
